Evolution of the piano

At a time in my life where I played on the display pianos in Allan’s Music store just to quelch my desire to have a piano, I decided to take this to another level: if I can’t buy one, I’ll make one. I guess that’s where you can say how my modeling making chapter began.

So, I began my first model by making a grand piano, modeled on the Yamaha baby grand. That was October, 2006. Within two years, I have made two more piano models, this time based on the Steinway grands. You can see how my skills have definitely improved! In other words…practice, practice, practice!

It was a wedding gift for my partner’s sister.

My third piano

As you can see, this piano came as a trio set -piano, violin and cello. I pretty much made the cello and violin out of the same cardboard and paper as the piano, although I had to mix the colours and paint it onto what was originally a white/brown surface.

             Piano, violin, cello

The trio was ordered by a friend who wanted to give it as a gift to her parents. She comes from a family of three -and all three plays a different instrument (piano, violin, cello). Since all the children are pretty much overseas most of the time, my friend wanted to give a gift that signifies each child, to remind their parents that they are loved. Don’t you think that’s such an awesome gift? i definitely enjoyed making this for her!

  1. wow and wow
what is that made from? that is absolutely INCREDIBLE

  2. Thank you!

It’s entirely made of cardboard. The soundboard is made from an extremely tough cardboard, and there’s 4 layers of it. The other parts of the piano is also made of paper, varying in thickness for manipulation. But, I used wood for the chair legs and the stick that holds up the piano lid!

  3. Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation :) Anyway … nice blog to visit.

    cheers, Yonkers.
